Brookfield is the first district in Trumbull County that has implemented a new crisis management plan using modern technology. With the help of Foremost Safety Solutions, the complex now is color-coded, digital, and clearly marked.

“They have ready access right to that room, not coming to a front door but going right exactly where the incident is happening,” said Roy Meadows, founder and CEO of Foremost Security.

The program is called Spot On Response and puts the building’s blueprints in a digital format that can be easily but securely accessed by emergency personnel on phones, tablets, and computers.

“We want to be able to make sure that all the folks who are involved in that safety plan have that easily accessible at any time,” said Superintendent Tim Saxton.

Retired police officer Joe O’Grady said the system will cut down on response time.

“It would tell us where the problems are, and we can focus on that area at that time,” O’Grady said.

Those emergencies can be anything from a medical condition to something more serious like a shooting, which is a situation Joe Bergant is familiar with. Bergant was the superintendent at Chardon Schools when T.J. Lane opened fire inside the high school’s cafeteria in 2012, killing three students.

“My goal moving forward is to keep that stimulation up and make sure everybody is alert for any kind of disaster, whether it’s a school shooting or train derailment, or some severe weather. All these things impact the safety of children,” Bergant said.
