Seniors Sign Letters of Intent
Congratulations to BHS senior Bailey Hackett - who on March 28, 2022, signed her Letter of Intent to wrestle for Lourdes University! "I am so excited," she said, just before signing. "I didn't realize this was my dream until I started wrestling in 9th grade, and I'm excited to see it become reality!" Located in Sylvania, Ohio, Lourdes University’s athletics program sponsors 24 sports and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  The Gray Wolves are members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

Hackett began wrestling as a freshman, winning multiple awards and appearing in multiple district and state tournaments. As a sophomore she was the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association State runner-up. As a junior she placed first in the district tournament and 4th in the girls state tournament. This year, as captain of the wrestling team, she finished second in the district tournament and qualified for a third, consecutive appearance at the OHSWCA state tournament. In addition to wrestling, Bailey has also earned four letters in volleyball and three letters in track. Hackett is a two-time Academic All Ohio honoree for girls wrestling. She is a Senior Mentor, member of the Tot Squad, Interact, SADD, FTA, and is the Treasurer of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club at BHS. Bailey plans to study education at Lourdes University and hopes to one day become a high school science teacher.

Congratulations Bailey, we wish you every success as you embark on this new adventure!

Congratulations to Brookfield High School seniors Tasha Oviatt and Kenny Montgomery - both have signed Letters of Intent to play athletics at the collegiate level next year. Students signed their commitment letters during a special signing ceremony held in the Brookfield High School gym after school on Friday, March 4, 2022. Family, friends, and district staff were all on hand to witness the milestone event.

Tasha Oviatt has been playing soccer since she was three years old. She’s been on recreational teams, indoor teams, and most recently, the Brookfield High School team. “I grew up around soccer,” the senior says. “I really didn’t want it to stop after I graduated high school.” Oviatt says in an effort to keep her collegiate dreams alive, she reached out to the women’s soccer coach at Hiram College, Kaela Kovanda, sending video and inviting her to watch an upcoming indoor game. Several conversations and a phone call later, Oviatt’s dream came true. “My mom got a call and started yelling,” she remembers. “I knew then that this [playing soccer] was going to happen. This has been a big dream for me, I’m so happy and excited!” During her career at Brookfield, Oviatt earned three varsity letters in soccer. She is an honor roll student and has earned certifications in American Heartsaver first aid, CPS, AED, OHSA industry health care, HIPPA training, and NFHS concussion training. Oviatt says she plans to major in sports management at Hiram.

Golf is a relatively new sport for Kenny Montgomery. He took it up five years ago, and worked hard to become a prominent member of the Brookfield team. During his high school tenure, Montgomery earned four varsity letters, and this past season alone he finished in third place at the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) Conference tournament, and earned first team All League and honorable mention All-Northeast Ohio honors. His abilities caught the attention of the University of Mount Union’s golf coach. After two visits, Montgomery had a choice to make. “It wasn’t hard, I knew I wanted to be there,” he says. “After I let them know, the coach told me he can’t wait to have me. I’m really excited, one of my dreams was to go play college golf, so this is a dream come true.” At BHS, Montgomery also played basketball, and is a member of the National Honor Society, has been selected as a Student of the Month, and chosen as the Outstanding Student in Web Design. At Mount Union, Montgomery says he plans to pursue a sports business degree.

Congratulations Tasha and Kenny - the Brookfield Local School District is proud of you and wishes you both every success in your future endeavors!
