2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
The Brookfield Local School District is proud to induct seven new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Members of the Class of 2022 include: Michael "Pops" Faber, Brian Gedeon, Marc Hubbard, Sam King, Jill Kirila, Lou Scudere, and the 2006-07 Wrestling Team. Their formal induction took place on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Congratulations! 

Michael "Pops" Faber (Contributor)

Michael “Pops” Faber was a long-time manager for the Warrior football teams and the boys and girls basketball teams.  “Pops” fell in love with football and basketball while attending Sharpsville High School. After high school, “Pops” worked locally and married his wife Clara. In April of 1944, he had to leave his wife and daughter to fight in World War II.  

“Pops” was a medic assigned to the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and served during World War II in the European Theatre. “Pops” fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and Germany and was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

After his service in the Army, “Pops” returned home and to his wife and daughter.   “Pops” and his family moved to Elm St. in Masury in the early 1950s and resided there for over forty years.  During that time, “Pops” worked at Valley Mould and was a member of the Masury VFW, The Buhl Club, The AFL/CIO, and the Brookfield Boosters. “Pops’” hobbies included hunting, fishing, and golf.

In the 1980’s “Pops” began his years as a manager for both the Brookfield Football teams and for the boys and girls basketball teams.  He was a longtime supporter of Brookfield Athletics and was especially proud to be a part of the Lady Warriors' successes.  He was the manager for both the 1989-90 and the 1990-91 Lady Warrior’s teams that advanced to the State Final Four.

“Pops” and Clara had three children who attended BHS: Nancy Faber McFarland (Brookfield), Michael Faber (Dayton), and Ronald Faber (Brookfield, deceased).

“Pops” passed away in 1991 and besides his children; he has ten grandchildren, and many great and great-great-grandchildren who are able to cherish his night of recognition as a contributor to Brookfield High School Athletics.


Brian Gedeon (Class of 1989)

Brian Gedeon graduated from Brookfield High School in 1989.  He earned three letters in football and one letter in wrestling.  He was a three-year starter at offensive tackle for the Warriors. Listed below are his high school football accomplishments:

Trumbull AA League – First Team; NEO – First Team; All County – Second Team; All State Division IV – First Team

After graduation, Brian attended College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California where he played offensive and defensive tackle.  He helped lead the team to the Southern California Bowl Championship.  Brian also lettered in track at The College of the Desert where he threw the javelin and discus.

In 1991 and 1992, Brian played for Findlay University under Coach Dick Strahm.  He was the starting offensive tackle and long snapper.  The 1991 team went to the semi-final round of the Division II NAIA Championship.  The 1992 team won the NAIA Championship.  While at Findlay University Brian blocked for two 1,000-yard rushers.

From 2001-2003 Brian coached the Brookfield Middle School football team that won a league championship.  From 2003-2005 he was the offensive line coach for the varsity team.

Brian attended the Police Academy at Kent State University and graduated in 2006.  In 2007, he was hired by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department and has been employed there for the past sixteen years.  Brian and his wife have three children.


Marc Hubbard (Contributor)

Marc Hubbard attended Addison Elementary School until a life-changing event caused him to attend Fairhaven Workshop in Niles, Ohio.

Marc’s love of his family, God, church, and football has always been the focus of his life.  Marc loves attending church on a weekly basis, where he is one of the featured soloists in the Mr. Olive Baptist Church Choir.  His commitment to being a volunteer for over forty years with the Brookfield Warriors football team highlights his love for football and his community. 

Marc was selected to sing the National Anthem at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball game in Niles, Ohio.  His hobbies include fishing, spending time with his family, listening to music, and attending church.  His love of God and family has earned him the title of “One of the best Christians who sings like an angel.”

Marc is grateful to his brother and caregiver, Howard “Lenny” Hubbard, and his sister-in-law, Jeanette Hubbard.  His family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends love him as well as all the football coaches and players who have known him.


Sam King (Class of 2005)

Sam King graduated from Brookfield High School in 2005.  He earned three letters in basketball.  Listed below are his high school accomplishments:

2003-2004: TAC-8 First Team, All County First Team, Honorable Mention All-State

2004-2005: TAC-8 First Team, Northeast Ohio First Team, All County Captain and First Team, The Trumbull County Basketball Player of the Year, Third Team All-State

Sam went on the play basketball at Mount Union College and was a four-year starter and letter-winner.  He was a two-year team captain and led the team in minutes played and assists all four years.

Sam lives in Powell, Ohio with his wife and their two children.


Jill Kirila (Class of 1990)

Jill graduated from Brookfield High School in 1990.  She earned four letters in track and cross-country and three letters in basketball.  Jill was a team captain of the 1989-1990 Lady Warrior basketball team that was State Runner-Up.  She led the team in assists and was an outstanding defensive player for the Lady Warriors. 

Her basketball accomplishments include: Trumbull AA League – Second Team; All County – Second Team; NEO – Honorable Mention; MVCA All-Star Selection; WYTV Athlete of the Week 

Her Cross Country and Track accomplishments include: Cross Country and Track Regional Qualifier – 1986-1990; State Qualifier in the 3200-meter run - 1988; TAC-8 Champ in the 3200-meter run – 1989

Jill attended The Ohio State University, graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1994, and then attended Georgetown Law Center, graduating with a law degree in 1997.  She joined the law firm of Squire Sanders after law school (today known as Squire Patton Boggs) and is still there as a partner, leading the firm’s global Labor and Employment practice.  She has been selected as one of Ohio’s Super Lawyers and is recognized as a top Labor and Employment attorney in the Chambers USA Guide and Best Lawyers in America publications.

Jill and her husband live in Columbus with their two children and their dog, Elli.


Lou Scudere (Class of 2003)

Lou graduated from Brookfield High School in 2003. He earned three letters in football.  As a sophomore kick returner, he had a 91-yard return for a touchdown vs. Wilmington and a 104-yard kick return for a touchdown vs. Liberty.  As a junior, Lou had a 95-yard kick return against Wilmington for a touchdown.

As a senior, he rushed for over 1,000 yards, scored 10 touchdowns, and had a kick return for 94 yards against LaBrae on a night when he scored three touchdowns.  

His football honors include: TAC-8 – First Team; Sharon Herald 22 Seniors All-Star Team; All-State – Special Mention

Lou earned four letters in track.  

His track accomplishments include:

2000 – Regional qualifier in the 200-meter dash and anchored the regional qualifying 400-meter relay team.

2001 – Regional qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and anchored the regional qualifying 400-meter relay team. Set the school record in the 100-meter dash in 10.8 seconds.

2002 – All TAC-8 in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Anchored the school record-setting (43.8 seconds) 400-meter relay team.  Regional qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and anchored the regional qualifying 400-meter relay team.  Finished 6th at the State Meet in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.69 seconds.  First Team All-State

2003 - Regional qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and anchored the regional qualifying 400-meter relay team.  Regional Champion in the 200-meter dash in 22.22 seconds. State qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.  Set the school record for the most points scored in a season.


2006-2007 Wrestling Team

The 2006-2007 wrestling went undefeated in their regular season matches and were the EOWL Champs.  

The team consisted of: 

Freshmen – Saquan Baldwin, Steve Shaw (EOWL First Team), Tanner Thompson (EOWL Honorable Mention), Tyler Thompson (All County & EOWL Second Team), and Marcell Vitello

Sophomores – Dan Miller (EOWL First Team/All-County Second Team/ State Alternate), Cody Thompson (EOWL Honorable Mention)

Juniors – Mike Bender (All County & EOWL First Team/State Qualifier), Tom Borton, Tim Cree (EOWL Honorable Mention)

Seniors – Tom Besser, Jeff Hansen (All-County First Team/EOWL Second Team), Brad Harnett (All County & EOWL First Team/ State Qualifier), Richie Osberg, Tristan Thompson (All County & EOWL First Team/ State Qualifier), Ross Tice – (All County & EOWL First Team & Most Valuable/State Runner-Up), Scott Wilster


The coaches were:
