Kasiewicz Selected for Young Women with Bright Futures Award
Emily Kasiewicz
Congratulations to Brookfield High School senior, Emily Kasiewicz, who was selected to be this year’s district honoree for the YWCA’s Young Women with Bright Futures Award! Kasiewicz was recognized at the organization’s banquet held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Holiday Inn in Boardman. Kasiewicz was one of more than twenty young women from schools across Mahoning and Trumbull counties nominated for the honor. She received a $500 scholarship from Denise DeBartolo-York for being selected as the district's nominee.

"It truly is an honor to be recognized in such a fashion,” Kasiewicz says of the distinction. “I truly do take a lot of pride in what I do within Brookfield, and I couldn't be more grateful for this award."

Since its inception in 1994, the YWCA’s Young Women with Bright Futures program has been providing community recognition of outstanding young women who are high school seniors. Honorees are selected by school administrators based on their leadership, creative, academic, and volunteer traits. "Nominating Emily for this award was a no-brainer,” says Brookfield High School Principal, Dr. Megan Marino. “She possesses the qualities of integrity, intelligence, talent, leadership, and a commitment to personal growth and community improvement. Emily embodies the true essence of a young woman with an extremely bright future, and I am so proud to be her high school principal."

As part of the program, honorees participate in three days of leadership seminars where they hear from guest speakers, work to compose essays on why they should be selected for the top scholarship award, and complete a collaborative community service project.

At Brookfield High School, Kasiewicz is actively involved in various extracurricular activities including jazz band, marching band (drumline captain, section leader), concert band, student council (senior class President), journalism/yearbook (senior editor), Environmental Club, Interact Club, Future Teachers of America, National Honor Society (Secretary), Tot Squad, and Senior Mentor. Kasiewicz has received varsity letters in bowling and soccer and has served as the solo guitarist for school-sponsored events such as prom and basketball games.

Kasiewicz will attend Lake Erie College in the fall and plans to major in nursing.

Congratulations, Emily!
