A summer experience of law and governing for BHS junior Kamryn Kurpe! Kurpe is one of nearly 600 participants chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary to compete in the 77th annual Buckeye Girls State program at Bowling Green State University June 9th-15th! “I am very excited for this experience and am looking forward to being part of it,” Kurpe says. 

The main objective of the Buckeye Girls/Boys State program is to educate young women (and men) who have completed their junior year of high school in the duties, rights, and privileges of citizenship by providing them the opportunity to participate in a mock democratic governmental body. During their stay, students will file petitions for political offices, facilitate a mock election, and put their assembled government into practice. “I’ve always been interested in the law and hope to make a career of it in the future,” she says. “I thought this would be a fun way to learn more about how the law works in Ohio, travel away from home, and hopefully make new friends!”
