Start with Hello
Brookfield High School is participating in Start with Hello week in an attempt to bring students together against bullying and in favor of acceptance, friendship, and kindness. Start with hello is a product of the Sandy Hook Promise, which has spread across the nation. Over 2000 schools nationwide participate in thise weeklong event. There is a different activity or challenge to students each day of the week. Today, students wore nametags and were challenged to say hello to someone who they do not normally talk to. Alex Smith, a speaker with the Sandy Hook Promise Organization spoke to the entire school on 2/6/2017 and offered strategies for students to meet and talk to other students. Most importantly, he delivered the message that one person's kindness and compassion could be the difference in someone else's life. Other activities during Start with Hello week include: Sitting at different lunch tables and eating with different people than usual, wearing the Start with Hello T-shirt as a sign of unity in the school, and posting nice things on other people's lockers throughout the building. It is important for students to understand the impact their words and their actions can make on another person's life.
Air Force Fitness Awareness
Representatives from the United States Air Force come to visit students at Brookfield High on a monthly basis. This month, in order to raise awareness for the importance of physical fitness, the Air Force Recruiter is hosting a pushup contest for the senior classes of the four schools he represents. At the end of April, a party will be thrown for the seniors of the school with the most pushups!

BHS Students Salute English Teacher
The Lady Warrior Basketball Team played Champion on Wednesday, 1/25/2017. The game was broadcast live on MyYTV. The ladies lost a close, hard-fought game to the Flashes, but the story of the night was the student section's salute to Mrs. Jessica Gardner. While pregnant with her first child, Mrs. Gardner was diagnosed with breast cancer. Both middle and high school students, as well as some fans, joined together and wore pink in support of Mrs. Gardner. Then, on 1/27/2017, the cheerleading squad hosted a cheer camp and halftime dance with elementary students. The cheerleaders and the elementary students wore Gardnerstrong t-shirts during their halftime show. Proceeds from the camp have been donated to the Gardner Family. Since being diagnosed, Mrs.Gardner has delivered a healthy daughter, Savannah (born on 12/26/2016). Mrs. Gardner has had surgery and is set to begin treatment in February. Multiple student groups, families, and staff members have stepped up in support of Mrs. Gardner in various ways. She wishes to extend her gratitude for all the love and support that the Brookfield Community has shown her family throughout this process and she cannot wait to get back to work with our students! We continue to wish her good luck throughout her treatment and recovery process!
Is It Worth It?
This question was posed to the students at Brookfield High and Middle Schools on 1/27/2017 when Camfel Productions came from Los Angeles, California to speak at BHS. The presentation covered various topics, specifically decision making and respect. Students took away the idea that they should ask themselves, "is it worth it?" before making a decision. Is this decision going to help reach your goals or not? If not, then a different decision should be made. Brookfield Local School District thanks Camfel Productions for their presentations and their time! For more information about Camfel Productions, click here.
